Fall & Winter Activites

Your all season resort in Hope Valley, CA. Grab a mug of hot chocolate and join us in the winter festivities!

Blue-sky days, crisp nights, golden leaves, hot cocoa and mulled wine, cozy sweaters, a good book, stories by the fire with friends... it is fall at Sorensen's Resort in Hope Valley, California, the heart of the Sierra Nevada, just south of beautiful Lake Tahoe.

Cross-country skiing/ Snowshoeing

Come kick-and-glide through wilderness forest glades or across sweeping valley floors. With hopes of plentiful snow each year, we look forward to Mother Nature gracing the landscape with her white coat and the fun of winter sports. For our lodging guests, enjoy free use of our snowshoes (first-come, first-serve). Kirkwood Cross-Country is close by and available for rentals and groomed trails.

Alpine skiing/snowboarding

With Kirkwood Ski Resort only 15 minutes away and extensive backcountry it makes the perfect alpine getaway for downhill skiing enthusiasts and snowboarders.

Dogsledding

Enjoy an exhilarating adventure with Hope Valley’s own Husky Express!  Have the adventure of your life as you effortlessly glide through the snowy meadows of beautiful Hope Valley. On average the sleds can carry about two adult sized people and one or two small children.  Even more, you can sign up for their winter Avalanche Skills and Survival Course offered by Dave Beck, an accomplished Sierra skier. Known worldwide as the ultimate Sierra Classic ski tour, the Sierra High Route was first skied in its entirety in 1975 by David Beck. Going on a Husky Express tour allows you to enjoy the winter with a true living legend and pioneer in American backcountry skiing. For more information and reservations, call Husky Express directly at 775.782-3047.

Snow Play

Take a slide down our sledding hill, build a snowman or even an igloo! Sorensen's is the ideal winter playground.

Hot springs & swimming

Nearby Grover Hot Springs State Park features a naturally heated hot spring pool, as well as a large regular swimming pool. Lovely park grounds underneath the pines make a great picnic spot. Open all year, the hot springs pool is great for warming up after a day of winter play.

Sorensen's Wood-fired Sauna

One of our favorite things about the inn this time of year is having our guests fire up our Norwegian-style wood-fired sauna. It feels great especially that jolt you get if you dare jump into the snow outside.
